Dr. Vincente Faria joins Dr. David Ebert and Andrew Lewin on the podcast to discuss his graduate work on sawfish with Dr. Gavin Naylor. Dr. Faria talks about how he met Dr. Naylor and why he decided to choose sawfish as his focus animal when he wanted to do genetics.
Dr. Faria discovered a number of new sawfish species during his graduate career.

Dr. Josh Moyer recently graduated with a Ph.D. studying feeding morphology in sharks, but his career path was ignited and highly influenced by writing a letter to Dr. Eugenie Clark, a famous shark biologist by which people (young and old) were inspired to pursue shark science as a career path.
Josh went to an undergraduate college nearby as Dr. Clark suggested and it is where he met Dr. Dominique Didier. Dominique was studying ghost sharks at the time, which piqued Josh’s interest.
Josh ended up conducting his undergraduate thesis with Dominique and went on to do a Master’s and a Ph.D. in shark science.
